[Kamen Rider Black] The worst and strongest rival rises! Shadow Moon with light & sound gimmicks, Shadow Saber, and Satan Saber has been officially announced!

“How can a villain be this captivating?” — in the end, that is always the question people arrive at when talking about Shadow Moon. As the fated rival who symbolizes Kamen Rider BLACK, Shadow Moon carries both overwhelming power and deep tragedy as a Century King. Now, this iconic character has been recreated as part of the large-scale “Ultimate Article” series, but calling it merely a giant figure would not do it justice. The moment it enters a room, it changes the atmosphere itself — a true embodiment of presence. To be honest, my first reaction was simply, “Wow, 40cm is huge.” But once you actually imagine that scale in person, your perspective changes completely. This is less something you “display” and more something that “reigns.”
The first thing that stands out is the incredible level of detail made possible by its 40cm scale. Shadow Moon’s signature silver armor, its smooth metallic shine, even the organic body lines that evoke living muscle — the sheer amount of visual information is astonishing. Fine sculpted details and subtle shading that would normally be lost on smaller figures gain an almost unsettling realism at this size. The chest and arm sculpting in particular feel more than merely mechanical; they give off an eerie impression of something alive. Viewed head-on, the figure radiates an unmistakable sense of intimidation. Even standing perfectly still, it exudes the aura of an untouchable rival — something incredibly fitting for Shadow Moon.
The true magic of this product appears the moment its light and sound gimmicks activate. Flip the switch, and transformation sound effects accompany the illumination of Shadow Moon’s glowing “Mighty Eyes,” while the “Shadow Charger” lights up and rotates, creating the sensation of seeing Shadow Moon step right out of the television screen. And it doesn’t stop at simple illumination. Even the blinking signal effects are faithfully recreated, completely changing the mood of a dark room. It is not merely bright — it feels ominous. That sinister atmosphere is absolutely irresistible.
Another especially memorable feature is the “ON2” mode. The moment those unmistakable footstep sound effects begin, many fans will likely find themselves instantly remembering that entrance scene. Then comes the in-series background music, “M-33T2,” which completely takes over the atmosphere of the room. With an impressive runtime of around 96 seconds, this is far more than a simple bonus sound effect — it feels like a full dramatic production. At the same time, the forehead “Shadow Alarm” and various sensors across the body flash alternately, transforming your room into something that feels eerily close to a secret Golgom base. At this point, it feels less like a figure and more like an experience device.
The included weapons are equally impressive. The “Shadow Saber” comes in both long and short forms, and even the legendary “Satan Saber” is included. When posed with these weapons, the figure’s impact increases dramatically. Thanks to the large scale, the weapons maintain a commanding presence rather than feeling oversized or awkward, giving battle stances incredible weight and realism. Optional hand parts allow for a variety of poses, from the silent dignity of a king standing still to an aggressive stance that looks ready to strike down BLACK at any moment. Simply changing the weapon completely transforms the figure’s atmosphere, making the process of deciding how to display it genuinely enjoyable.
One detail I personally found especially appealing was the movable “Leg Trigger” gimmick. Parts like this often end up fixed in place on figures of this type, but being manually adjustable adds a satisfying mechanical realism. Even this small articulation subtly changes the nuances of Shadow Moon’s stance, helping the figure feel far more alive rather than simply static. Large-scale figures often lean toward permanent display pieces, but this Shadow Moon still preserves the fun of physically interacting with it.
Ultimate Article Shadow Moon is not simply for someone who wants a highly detailed collectible figure. More fundamentally, it feels designed for people who genuinely love the character of Shadow Moon itself. The lights, sounds, and interchangeable weapons all exist to faithfully recreate everything that makes him feel like him. Above all else, the commanding dignity created by its massive scale is overwhelming. Place it in a corner of a room, and suddenly that space begins to feel like Shadow Moon’s territory. It delivers a uniquely satisfying experience and stands out as an incredibly rich collector’s item.
